As we get together for Fathers Day this year let’s remember that nothing says Dad like a good barbecue. But don’t let Dad do the cooking this year over a bunch of burning sticks or the burning trashcan he may have used in college. Instead, he can pretend that he is Bobby Flay if he is doing the grilling on a brand new Weber, Kenmore or Vermont BBQ. Or of a new BBQ was last year’s Father’s Day gift, let’s help dad perfect his food firing flair with some great barbecue tools or a grill topper.

When I was a toddler, just four or five years old, I used to have a recurring dream that I lived aboard a very powerful spacecraft. The vessel was shaped like the typical flying saucer we associate with a UFO. It was completely opaque from the outside, which meant that that no one could look in, but I could see everything from the inside, thanks to the panoramic windows that extended across the entire control cabin. Later, I even added a feature to it that could make it invisible from the outside, so I could go anywhere I wanted and not be seen.

With summer quickly approaching, I casually remarked to my wife that it would be great if we had a wooden outdoor table to put on the back porch. That way, instead of spending the day working indoors on my laptop while Destructo, our youngest son, rips my bedroom office apart (”you just keep working Daddy … I’m playing!”), I could sit out the back with my notebook getting some fresh air and sunshine, supervising our young son. I pointed out to Corporate Babe that we could also sit outside and have breakfast together on weekends, and she agreed that it would be a good idea.
