College Greek Life
Before we explore college greek life, let s take a look at what the term means. In modern usage, college greek life is synonymous to Greek letter organizations which are usually fraternities and sororities. These organizations usually gather people with same interests, beliefs and missions.
Although joining college greek life is a personal choice, it is known that almost everyone gets drawn in to in for one reason or another. Gree letter organizations are very popular among college students so they tend to join these societies for the mere fun of it as well.
College greek life can be fun and exciting if you join the fraternity or sorority that you genuinely prefer. While the recruitments for fraternities are called rush, for sororities it is termed sorority recruitment which is a blunt term. Once a student joins a greek letter organization, it is known as going greek in college terms.
You may wonder why all this is called college greek life. Well, the fraternities and sororities choose a few greek letters to represent their organization. These organizations will have their own rituals, beliefs, rules etc. Thus the term, college greek life or going Greek!
If you are a freshman in college, maybe you should take some time before making your decision on whether to join college greek life or not. The reason is mostly because you may want to fit in to the environment and get to know more about what goes in and around college life before you commit to going greek.
If you are on a tight budget, college greek life may put you in trouble because going greek has strings attached financially. If everything fits within the plan and if the fraternity or the sorority you like to join accepts your request, you will gain great opportunities in meeting new people and getting in to social explorations!
But you always need to work with your primary focus in mind. In this case, studies. There are some students who have ruined their life due to going greek. So you ought to realize where to draw the lines between studies and greek life in college. After all, college is another passing phase that pave the path to the future prosperity!
