Ways to Homeschool Your Child

Once you have made the decision for teaching your child at home, how do you begin? There are so many different ways that it can seem difficult to homeschool your child.

First, ask other homeschooling families what the laws are for teaching your children at home. They can point you to local homeschool associations. These associations can tell you exactly what you need to do in order to follow the laws of your area for teaching your child.

Second, decide what kind of a learner each of your children are. Do they learn best by reading, listening, or doing? Once you have the answer to that question, find learning resources that benefit that kind of learner.

If you have several children they might each learn differently. You might have one visual (seeing), one auditory (hearing), and one kinesthetic (doer). Don’t worry, though. There are programs that will teach to all three learning styles.

getting an education at home can be fun if you, the teacher, can relax and enjoy the time with your children. Reading aloud, even to children that can already read, is a great way to spend time together and learn from interesting books.

A terrific education can be acquired by borrowing books from the library that teach history by reading biographies and stories of people who lived at that time. Don’t worry about gaps. Any gaps can be filled in later when your children want to study that time period on their own.

By educating your child at home you experience a wonderful adventure. There are so many different learning aids available today that you will easily be able to find those that work best for your children, no matter which learning style they have. But getting an education at home does not mean bringing school home. It means freedom to learn with the methods that best fit each child.
